Painting

Leonardo's pictorial legacy is represented by only a little more than twenty paintings, however Leonardo considers painting to be the most effective means of expression, as stated in his writing on the subject, the Book of Painting. Not only does this art have primacy over all others but it also plays the role of guide of all disciplines. Like science, painting is universal and the painter can and must use it to represent the entire visible world.
